G O L D E N B A R R E L C A C T U S ☭

For this class called Biomimicry, we studied how humans take ideas from nature, a good example is a camouflage. Also, we went to a place called Interface where we learned about some types of carpet that used ideas from nature to save resources. We also learned about the timeline of the universe and our earth which was very cool to me. We went to the Lincoln Park Conservatory and looked at plants and how they adapted to their surroundings. For this AP we had to choose a plant that can solve a human issue such as water shortage. We also connected sustainable development goals to our project.



So basically what I learned from this project is that there are still so many things we can learn from nature. by creating a water tower that collects water like a cactus I realized that though maybe not too practical yet, it is very doable. The cost may be high but if it becomes a government contract then it would be too much of an issue. 

MAD MAX Critique

In our class Ollywood, we are learning about film production and how to analyze movie closer. We watched the film Jaws about well you know, but we took notes on things most people don't pay attention too such as the location and why it was chosen. We also went on a field experience to lower wacker drive to try to imagine film scouts and how they choose the perfect location and time of day and lighting. For this Action Project, we had to watch a film and summerise it. I watched Max Max Fury Road which is surprisingly not only about Max he isn't even the protagonist in the film.






Mad Max critique



This film is a has amazing screen effects and a great soundtrack it lacks a little bit in the story just to stay interesting but the action sequences make up for it. Mad Max fury road is the fourth installment for the series. This continues the Mad Max film series and takes aspects from the comics which is cool. In this one, Max(Tom Hardy) is captured by the war boys and put in captivity as a blood bag for soldiers. The war boy he gets assigned to give blood to is a guy named Nux(Nicholas Hoult). Nux wants to die historically on the fury road so he straps Max to the front of his pursuit vehicle and they try catching up to the protagonist named Furisoa(Charlize Theron). She is trying to help the Important wives escape from the citadel and go to this place called the green place. The three main towns hunt down the rig. The bullet farmer’s war party, the Important party and The people eater’s war party all went after her.





The protagonist is Furisosa a good quote by her is “now pick up what you can and run” this shows that she is really tough and ready for battle and not afraid of anyone. The antagonist is Important joe. He is a dictator of the citadel and has an army of “war boys” who look at him as a diety. There is this one scene were Nux and his co-pilot yelled out at Important joe and Joe looked towards them. Nux exclaimed “he looked at me, He actually looked at me” which shows that the war boys have gotten convinced were all they are is just expendable pawns. A quote by him is Do not become addicted to water, it will take hold of you and you will resent its absence. Him having control of the water supply makes all the civilizations there begin to die out and the way he gives out water is very cruel. He realizes the water for 30 seconds from a big pipe and then stops it and watches everyone fight over it. When furiosa escapes one of the Imortant’s son notices the war rig off the path and trying to escape. So they send all the parties after them. In the chase, Nux and max crash into the war rig and max gets to throw off the front of the car and is disconnected from Nux so he is not his blood bag anymore. Max wakes up and runs to the war rig and tries to steal it. Furiosa fights him for it and it is kind of a tie but max stats to drive off but she has a kill switch on the engine so he doesn't make it far. They both realize that it would be better for them to work together to escape the war parties so they team up. They continue on for days looking for the green place. They pass through a swamp and they get stuck. Max fights off the bullet farmer and kills him with an off-screen explosion. This buys them some time because of all the other cars after they get stuck in the mud. So they keep pushing on. Eventually, they find a group who used to live in the green place and they talk in a reminiscent way about it and furiosa wonders why. They tell her how they had to abandon it and how the soil was poisoned and how that the five of them are the only ones left from that tribe and how everyone else is dead. This really makes furiosa angry because that was here only plan and there is else out there. (In the comics they call it the Big Nothing) In a final showdown, they fight off the war parties after they and a lot of them die. Furiosa gets stabbed in the lung so she is out of commission so it's up to Max to fix this. Max gets into a fist fight with Rictus a six foot eleven inch three hundred thirty pound guy who is one of the Important sons. Max realizes quick that punching him doesn't do anything so he looks for items to hit him with. They fight for a bit until max realizes that this is going nowhere so he jumps off the war rig on to an enemy’s car keep in mind Nux is driving the war rig. Max gets pinned down and is getting attacked. Out of nowhere Furisoa stands up and wraps a chain around the Imortant’s neck and shoves it into the tire of this car so it rips his face off. Seeing this Nux realizes that he has been lied to and that he is not a prophecy and “one who grabbed the sun”. Rictus is still standing on the war rig and Max, Furiosa and some of the wives get onto the truck max hijacked in front of the rig. Rictus rips the engine out of the rig and Nux flips it so it blocks the road because the road was very narrow there. All the vehicles get stopped and crash and Max escape. They return to the citadel and show everyone the faceless body of Important joe and they all realize that they have been lied to as well. The movie ends with max disappearing into the crowd of bystanders and furiosa taking command.





The set is mostly the desert and the movie is about cars and power. I could imagine it in the artic maybe but this is a post-apocalyptic movie so there is barely anything left. There are some variations of the land like the swamp scenes and the canyon but the land isn't living everything is dead. the clothes are like you showed someone a barn and said make combat uniforms from items in here. So its a lot of rugged materials. Also, some different tribes have different outfits like the war boys. They wear black cargo pants and no shirt with a lot of tattoos on them. Their skin is also bleached white.


I think my favorite scene was when Rictus(the imortant’s son) ripped the engine of a truck he was standing on. It was filmed very well and had a good soundtrack in the background. It also slowed down the frames so you saw every single bolt and screw from that engine fly out. There really isn't any dialog besides Rictus yelling his own name while ripping out the engine. It shows that Rictus is kind of still barbaric to cheerfully yell his own name which no one really does now after a successful action. It moves the story forward a lot because this causes the war rig to crash and block all the other war parties. It really doesn't reflect modern times YET. It is a fictional post-apocalyptic time after the world ran out of the water. It does show how society can break down without basic necessities like food and water so it's a good lesson to conserve water. I read some were that the cars stood for power and the bigger and faster the car is the more respect you have that's why Nux a war boy is in a small muscle car while Important Joe is in a giant modified car with tractor wheels on it. I would give this film a thumbs up for sure.

Invitation

In my class called Rhetoric, we have been working towards a people's assembly. This is pretty much a gathering of people to discuss issues that affect the community. We are trying to get the candidates running for mayor to come to this. If people saw these politicians showing up for this they will know then that it's more than just a project and an actual chance to change Chicago. This is an invitation to people to try to get them interested in this. I focused on gang violence which is a major problem the citizens of Chicago and John Kozlar has a plan to change this.


 

This is an image from the Boston massacre. This was when British Army forces fired on innocent protesters. The rumors about this is a shot went off from somewhere and this sparked the massacre. I think this relates to gang violence in Chicago. The reason I think this relates so well is that I feel like that gangs are the redcoats and the innocent people are the same. I also feel like gang violence This uphill battle just like the colonist verses the British. This is an example of allusion. I am alluding a modern issue of gang violence back to an issue that happened in 1770.


Before I say what John Kozlar can do for this I want to state some basic facts about the unfortunate matter. This is the most lethal year for the city in 20 years, There are nearly 82 shootings a week in Chicago, There is a "revolving door" of felons who repeatedly commit gun crimes in Chicago (repeat offenders), President Barack Obama's Department of Justice has been soft on felons who commit gun crimes. The really bad part is I feel like no one is safe.

I think every human in the city should care because everyone is in danger, not just other gangsters. A lot of the time when bullets fly others get hit like kids. Also misunderstanding it an issue. This one guy who was deaf and he was using sign language and he got shot and killed because of some guy thinking he was throwing up gang signs. This needs to change. It is ridiculous how a man got killed over a misunderstanding.

What John Kozlar wants its to change this. He wants to make more programs for young teens at risk. I feel like this is a great idea for teens to have a positive outlet like this to improve themselves and not get into gang life. There are already some programs which have been proven to help but there should be more we can't let more innocent people die for a reason that doesn't make any sense.

Personally, I think John can definitely make a vast difference in gang violence with these programs. He also wants to "fix" the police force. This will but a much more difficult task because Chicago has a past of the cops have some"get out of jail free card" but Kolzar still wants to challenge this. I respect him because he knows it's an uphill battle for him but he will keep fighting it until he goes out of office. If he doesn't get elected I know he won't stop he will keep fighting for change. 

D & E AP 3

In this class called design and engineering, we learned about empathy and we thought about people who had issues with basic things. We were trying to make bikes for a persona we got assigned. The persona we got had the longest commute out of everyone. we had to adapt to this so that he could go and not strain himself over time. We made a 3D printed model of the bike which turned out surprisingly well.

John Kozlar

In my class called Rhetoric we are learning about different devices and ways that people can appeal to others. We were assigned a project about a candidate who is running for mayor in Chicago. I choose John Kozlar I feel like he can actually change things because he is calling out how corrupt the city is and how "safe" criminals feel here. Some ways he conveys his points is by alluding to things that past mayors have said and voicing his opinion on the matter at hand. Another way is he identifies who he is talking to and is respectful and wants the people to think for themselves more than just mindlessly choose a mayor. 

Vote For John Kozlar

For our class called Rhetoric we have learned about speaking and connecting to others through speech. We went to some field experiences and some people came in. We went to a MLK statue in the south west side and talked about how his voice was used as a weapon. We also went to a music shop and we saw how they advertised guitars. We also did a small project were we made a new guitar design to make it look more modernized. This action project was about the mayoral candidates and we had to choose one and right a script about him or her showing their views. I had John Kozler he is one of the people who is running. I like some his ideas and I wanted to find out more about him so I did. You are about to read the script I wrote there is some variation in the script because I said hello  to the person I was talking to but that's about the only difference. 

I truly believe that John Kozler is the best candidate for this city. I think he can relate to people in Chicago. He was born on the Southside and he can definitely understand some of the issues if he is from there. His campaign slogan is ENOUGH OF THE ELITIST AND MACHINE POLITICIANS RUNNING OUR CITY. IT'S TIME TO TAKE CHICAGO BACK! Hopefully he is also going to target issues in other neighborhoods, not just the ones near where he is from. Kozler is the youngest running for office at 29 years old. He is trying to fix things like working with the community members and Chicago Police to infiltrate gangs and add programs so the most at risk people can have an opportunity to make a positive impact on society. This would definitely make things safer and hopefully lower the chicago crime stats. This candidate can save lives if elected. This city will be running better than an oiled machine when he’s in office and you can take that to the bank.

Strength N' Aid

In this class called Design and Engineering we learned about simple machines, how animals use tools, and how it relates to humans. We also attended some FE's to places like Home Depot and the design lab Beyond Design. These places helped teach us about how tools can be improved from their original design.

The purpose of this Action Project was to have empathy for other people that can't use basic tools. There was this lady named Pattie Moore. What she did was she dressed up as an old woman and gave herself the physical disadvantages of senior citizens. She realized that everyday basic functions are a lot more difficult when you are old. So empathy relates because you have to put yourself in the shoes of someone who can't do these things. What PA and I did was we redesigned a Mattock pick, which is a tool with a pick and a trench on the head. Also what we did was as a class we interviewed someone who gardens. I interviewed my father who has gardened for years and owned a flower shop in the 80s. This is a wedge because the head of the Mattock is not pointed but rather more slanted.This is a wedge because it is sharp at the end and expands in width towards the back. Our design is very economic and cost effective. It is lighter and easier to use for those who can't lift.

In conclusion this project was about putting oneself in another person's shoes and designing something for them. We designed a mattock that is meant for old people to use with ease. The mattock bends and lands on their shoulder and we give them a coat that has metal shoulder blades so it doesn't injure them over time.
